El Anatsui receives the Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement...

Within the framework of the XIth Florence Biennale, celebrating twenty years of activity, the Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement Award will be bestowed on Internationally acclaimed artist El Anatsui from Ghana.

El Anatsui, who has earned many prizes and honorary titles with his works, which are in prestigious public collections in four continents, is going to be in Florence on Friday 13 October 2017 to receive in person the Lorenzo il Magnifico Award, conferred in recognition of his outstanding contribution to art over a forty-year career.

Happening at The Fed Galleries, this Film features El Anatsui, and presents opinions on ways that “artists respond to a world in a flux, and act as agents of change. What aesthetic decisions have artists made/do artists make as they proffer their thoughts?”

EL ANATSUI CELEBRATES/IS CELELBRATED AT NUBUKE FOUNDATION

El Anatsui was in Accra Ghana today, at the 10th anniversary of the native Nubuke Foundation.

There, he held exciting conversation bordering on his work from 1974 to date. This was moderated by N’Goné Fall (curator and art writer).

Featuring also, was interesting exhibition of the works of international and Ghanaian artists. Art lovers in Ghana including children, and students enjoyed the day as the children unveiled the art that had been created in the honour of the Professor Emeritus.

A memorable day, indeed!

ANATSUI VISITS HIS ALMA MATER, KNUST, GHANA

El Anatsui this 19th day of October 2016 reroutes his steps homeward to KNUST, Kumasi, where some of the earlier blocks of his art practice were laid.

Organised by the College of Arts, this is his first official visit to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST) since he graduated in 1975. He made a call to the Vice Chancellor Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso and entertained a conversation with students and staff.

The Vice Chancellor honoured him with a plaque of the university in appreciation of his great work and for being a good ambassador of the university. Anatsui in turn encouraged the Faculty of Art to continue their work on further improving the faculty.

Anatsui extended his tour to the Kumasi Cultural Center, and the Adinkra Cloth Workshop, Ntonso.
